The Homestretch

We are on day 9 of Sadie's flu - and she is feeling a bit better. No advil yet today... watched tv for only 2 hours so far (as opposed to the 10 she has been doing). I think we're on the home stretch... maybe school tomorrow? For the girl that never naps, she's not doing too bad. I think yesterday was the first day without one since last week Tuesday! It got to be a bit scary on Monday when she couldn't (or wouldn't - did I mention stubborness runs in our family?) walk. But the doctor just said it was the flu. Who knew the flu had nothing to do with the stomach - it's a respiratory illness. 34 and still learning new things. I thought I was going to lose my mind yesterday with Sadie's sniffs (she refused to blow her nose) and Lucy's screams and then the t.v broke... arrrgh! Help me Jesus! But we made it. Now she wants lunch.... the nerve :)

It's been awhile...

So, this is been the week of the sickies. Sadie's going on 5 days with a fever, Lucy was sick the beginning of the week. Poor girls... Sadie's been ready for bed by 6pm most nights, wakes up congested and throat sore. Lucy's come through the worst, only to find out that yes, she is allergic to eggs. It's surprising how little eggs is actually in stuff - not in bread, crackers etc.... The doctor equipped us with an epi pen to prepare for the worst (although he did say it's really not likely). Sadie went to art class with Jesse today - made a pig out of paper mache - lots of fun. Right up her alley - miss "craft-a-day" girl. Definitely her favourite activity. This week with her staying home it's been a bit of a challenge in those moments when she's feeling well to come up with interesting things to do... So we made a peacock & African scene with corrugated cardboard as a paint brush. Thank you Mister Maker. Sadie's sense of humour is really coming alive lately - especially when Jesse was in Bangladesh (don't know why?) My favourite line from her when he was away... Jesse emailed to tell Sadie about the children there... Sadie's response - I love the children in Africa and in Nova Scotia. I'm thinking Jesse's been away alot this year - a little bit of confusion on her part.

Lucy's word progression....
Stuck (I stuck being her first sentence)

Tonight Jesse put down masking tape on the floor - remembering how much Sadie loved it when she was around 2. First a straight line she ran back and forth on. Then he crossed it with another piece of tape and she just kept pointing to it yelling "Star". Then ran around in circles. Then he made runway which she just ran down yelling wheeeee. Then she ran around in circles. Noticing a trend... Yelling & running around in circles. That's our Lucy.

The girls are growing!

Lucy I think has 12 teeth - craziness.  Is now on straight homo milk.  Our favourite word of hers is NOOOO - said with a really, really round mouth, cheeks sucked it.  We say "Let's go upstairs and change your diaper"  She yells NOOO and then runs towards the stairs.

Memories of Sadie as a baby...
  • when Koala brothers would come on, she would flap her arms and run in a circle.
  • Poking her finger in Megan's (a girl I babysat) eye while yelling Eye, eye, eye (the only word she knew) - good thing, I came running and separated their highchairs.
  • always running around in circles.
  • Loved to play chase - even when she barely knew how to crawl.  If anyone came up to her she would start running away - no matter their intention.
  • When she was around two she decided her name should be Lucy - from the song "Put your shoes on Lucy" and when ever anyone would ask her what her name was she would say "I lucy" - couldn't convince her otherwise.

A New Year

Wow... 2009 has begun.  Scary how fast time flies.
This year.... I want to love God more, love my husband more, love my kids more, love myself more and others too!  A lofty goal indeed.  Need to remember that the Holy Spirit is what I need... I cannot do on my own.  So easy to forget.

Jesse leaves for Bangladesh in a couple weeks - little scared at that prospect. Him so far away, me on my own with two little ones.  I know it's the right thing the right time, so I am confident things will be okay, it's just going to be a loooong two weeks!  I can do all things through the Christ who gives me strength!

The girls...
beautiful.

Sadie can drive me nuts with her incessant talking, but I need to remember to encourage her.  To ask questions, to listen carefully to what she has to say.  I don't want her ever to feel that she has nothing worthwhile to offer.  I need to be careful of how I speak to her about her talking.  She just got home today from being with Grandma & Grandpa in Niagara Falls - had a great time at Seussical etc...  She is so grown up.  I kept looking at her today hardly believing she's going to be 5 in a couple weeks.  Makes me teary eyed to think of all the wasted opportunities.  God's grace.

Lucy is a little monkey - climbing on everything!  I think its funny how both Jesse and I are surprised when Lucy just goes to sleep when we put her in her crib.  That's how its supposed to work.  Funny.

We went to visit Sue & Eric (Max & Molly are their dogs) in the circle yesterday.  Had a great time - Sadie danced for Eric for 1/2 an hour - a captive audience.  She really broke out of her shyness.  There is such a grace about her.  Lucy just ran laps around their living room, feeding the dogs cheerios as she went.  need to keep up this relationship - I think it really blesses Sue especially.

Anyhow - good night, batteries are about to die :)

BUBBA!

Yesterday when Lucy was upset I asked her - "Where's your bubba (soother)?  She responded "BUBBA" and started to look on the ground and then behind the blanket on the couch all the while calling for her bubba... very cute.  Again later on at night while sitting on Jesse's lap - asked her again, started throwing things off the couch yelling Bubba, Bubba, Bubba!

We went the pumpkin patch - Bry-Anne farms and the girls had a great time.  Lucy's reaction to the cow was so cute, Sadie cozying up to me on the hay ride was wonderful.

has 6 teeth - with two more coming in

Sadie

The day that was

Today...
the day Sadie split her head open when the antique slide viewer fell on her head.  Her cries of "I wish I didn't live this day"  broke my heart.  Brave, brave girl at the hospital, now sporting one stitch.  While prepping & stitching, her eyes never left mine... until it hurt just that bit more and they were tightly shut.  How I love that girl.

Update... thinking about God - how when we are hurting we often turn to him, and when the pain gets too hard to bear, we sometimes turn away but God's gaze never, ever leaves us and when we open our eyes again, we can see his loving gaze again.
