Summer that was

Summer has been and gone - it was good to us!
Highlights include:
We went to Rochester Museum of Play - what a fantastic time! Between fairytale land, meeting Glenda the witch of the north and Dorothy, and the set of Sesame Street - the girls had a great time. Sadie was in awe of Glenda and all the cast of Wizard of Oz. Lucy loved playing with everything... the pigeons in sesame street, the sandbox made out of silicone beads, mother goose and all her friends. Great memories

Camping with my family - all 6 kids, and they did great. We survived a huge rainstorm and witnessed a rainbow at the end.It was good tocatch up again. Doesn't seem to be any time to chat as adults, but we'll get there one day.

Most of the rest of the summer just included the various splash pad / park etc... We managed to fill most of our days without getting too bored.

We ended the summer with a trip to Darien Lake. Oh boy. I took Sadie & Lucy on their first ride. Sadie sat with Jodi, Lucy beside me. Lucy did not stop giggling from beginning to end. It was a ride that spun around back and forth. Sadie was terrified. I spent the last 3/4 of the ride just reassuring her that she was okay and that it was going to be over soon. Poor girl, my heart broke for her. By the end of the second day of rides, she was riding on the kids roller coaster with both hands up in the air. It was good to see that change. I feared I had marked her scared of rides for life! I had figured she would be okay considering she loves oma & opa's swing - the wilder the ride the better! We had a good time camping with Bob & Michelle & Basia and her kids. COLD night but we made it!

Sadie has started school again - SK. She was really nervous the night before, but she really enjoyed her first day. I think once she realized she didn't have to know how to read for her first day of school, she was okay. Lucy wanted to join her, she stood in line, said bye mama and then was devastated when I took her home.

The girls are growing sooo fast. Lucy has an amazing vocabulary - even her knowledge of songs blows me away. So cute to hear her singing "Sunny Days, Clouds Away". She is definitely a peacekeeper (when she's not pulling Sadie's hair or scratching her face). When Sadie's upset she gets right up in her face and tries to make her laugh. Which usually works.

Sadie we're still working on mood swings and dealing with her explosive behaviour. She really is a sweet girl with a good sense of humour. I love her to bits. Each day seems to be getting better. Not sure if I'm just learning how to bring her down or if she's changing - either way its good.

Well... time for the day to begin.

Today

Well... Jesse is away cleaning up a camp. It's just me and the girls, Lucy's napping (very unusual - it's 9am!) Sadie is making crafts for Charlie. She has a necklace, icecream cone necklace, a crown for one of charlie's dollies, and a wand. All made with pipecleaners, beads and straws and lots of tape. Lucy's new phrase yesteday: "i uv ooo" Very cute.
Sadie kissed her first boy yesterday - Bradley. Got to school and Sadie was in the playground chasing after him with pursed lips. Uh-oh. Apparently Bradley wanted to marry all the girls in his class, then decided on Sadie, she decided that deserved a kiss. What am I gonna do about this one?

Wait that wasn't her first kiss - she kissed Aiden in nursery at church last year sometime - double uh-oh.

Discipline

Sadie is currently upstairs (after being sent there) singing...
She is not good to me. Sometimes she helps me, sometimes she puts me in my room even though it makes no sense.

oh she makes me laugh

March Break

What a great week... between tattoos, pirates, barnyard hardcore bands, friends, cousins - it was wonderful. The girls were finally both well, and happy! This week I started feeling like spring is coming and joy is in the air.
Sadie came up with a couple of great one-liners this week...
"when I get to heaven the first thing I'm going to do is bump my head to see if it will hurt - 'cause it's not supposed to hurt in heaven"
Heather to Jesse: can you pour me a glass of wine please?
Sadie: me too!
Jesse to Sadie: you didn't say please
Sadie: me too is french for please.

It is so wonderful to have cousins in our lives. Sadie & Charlie had a great time being princesses and dancing up a storm. Outside, the weather was gorgeous.
The other four were here too... interesting to have 3 kids in diapers, good thing my mom was here too. Jacob is such a sweet bean... man of little words but boy does he get his point across. I think Lucy & him are going to be good buds

Lucy finally said Moma (mommy) - mind you it was in order to get spun around in a laundry hamper, but it is finally a piece of her vocabularly - especially considering she calls the cat Bai (bailey) and the neighbour Bob (for Bob) it was about time I got some acknowledgement! Her little voice is sooo cute. Her mousesqueaks to get what she wants. She even knows some letters to the alphabet which blows me away. H, S, O, G - Hogs that makes sense. Superwhy is good for something! Let's see what has been added to her vocab...
Mama
Dada
plea (please)
titoe(tiptoe)
hai (hair)
Odi (Jodi)

The Homestretch

We are on day 9 of Sadie's flu - and she is feeling a bit better. No advil yet today... watched tv for only 2 hours so far (as opposed to the 10 she has been doing). I think we're on the home stretch... maybe school tomorrow? For the girl that never naps, she's not doing too bad. I think yesterday was the first day without one since last week Tuesday! It got to be a bit scary on Monday when she couldn't (or wouldn't - did I mention stubborness runs in our family?) walk. But the doctor just said it was the flu. Who knew the flu had nothing to do with the stomach - it's a respiratory illness. 34 and still learning new things. I thought I was going to lose my mind yesterday with Sadie's sniffs (she refused to blow her nose) and Lucy's screams and then the t.v broke... arrrgh! Help me Jesus! But we made it. Now she wants lunch.... the nerve :)

It's been awhile...

So, this is been the week of the sickies. Sadie's going on 5 days with a fever, Lucy was sick the beginning of the week. Poor girls... Sadie's been ready for bed by 6pm most nights, wakes up congested and throat sore. Lucy's come through the worst, only to find out that yes, she is allergic to eggs. It's surprising how little eggs is actually in stuff - not in bread, crackers etc.... The doctor equipped us with an epi pen to prepare for the worst (although he did say it's really not likely). Sadie went to art class with Jesse today - made a pig out of paper mache - lots of fun. Right up her alley - miss "craft-a-day" girl. Definitely her favourite activity. This week with her staying home it's been a bit of a challenge in those moments when she's feeling well to come up with interesting things to do... So we made a peacock & African scene with corrugated cardboard as a paint brush. Thank you Mister Maker. Sadie's sense of humour is really coming alive lately - especially when Jesse was in Bangladesh (don't know why?) My favourite line from her when he was away... Jesse emailed to tell Sadie about the children there... Sadie's response - I love the children in Africa and in Nova Scotia. I'm thinking Jesse's been away alot this year - a little bit of confusion on her part.

Lucy's word progression....

Tonight Jesse put down masking tape on the floor - remembering how much Sadie loved it when she was around 2. First a straight line she ran back and forth on. Then he crossed it with another piece of tape and she just kept pointing to it yelling "Star". Then ran around in circles. Then he made runway which she just ran down yelling wheeeee. Then she ran around in circles. Noticing a trend... Yelling & running around in circles. That's our Lucy.

The girls are growing!

Lucy I think has 12 teeth - craziness.  Is now on straight homo milk.  Our favourite word of hers is NOOOO - said with a really, really round mouth, cheeks sucked it.  We say "Let's go upstairs and change your diaper"  She yells NOOO and then runs towards the stairs.

Memories of Sadie as a baby...
  • when Koala brothers would come on, she would flap her arms and run in a circle.
  • Poking her finger in Megan's (a girl I babysat) eye while yelling Eye, eye, eye (the only word she knew) - good thing, I came running and separated their highchairs.
  • always running around in circles.
  • Loved to play chase - even when she barely knew how to crawl.  If anyone came up to her she would start running away - no matter their intention.
  • When she was around two she decided her name should be Lucy - from the song "Put your shoes on Lucy" and when ever anyone would ask her what her name was she would say "I lucy" - couldn't convince her otherwise.
